On September 13, our Fellows came together for one of the most impactful training sessions of the year—an experience that combined reflection, leadership development, and practical skills for service.
The day began with a powerful visit to the Legacy Museum, where Fellows explored the deep history of racial injustice in America and reflected on its ongoing impact on health equity today. Many described the experience as eye-opening, emotionally challenging, and motivating—reminders of why their commitment to underserved communities matters so deeply.
From there, Fellows moved into an advocacy workshop, where they practiced translating passion into action. Guided by Landon Nichols, Five Horizons Health Services Chief of Staff, they learned how to craft clear messages, identify specific “asks,” and even wrote letters to their state legislators on issues impacting health and equity. The session emphasized that leadership is not only about serving directly—it’s also about raising one’s voice for change.
Together, the September training reminded Fellows that leadership is a journey that blends knowledge, skills, and courage. Whether through hands-on projects, advocacy, or reflection, each step equips them to grow as leaders committed to service.
