Tawona is addressing access to care for women at Pathways, a shelter for women and children experiencing homelessness. The focus will be on awareness and education to advance cervical cancer prevention in this population, as Alabama ranks third nationally in cervical cancer cases and deaths. The goal is to identify and understand the healthcare access needs and barriers unique to this population. Emphasis will be placed on identifying social determinants of health, such as chronic health conditions, environment, education, and economic stability, that may be impacting these medically underserved women.
