Jamal participated in group sessions that taught participants life skills. During the course of the project, his focus shifted toward individual counseling sessions with youth who are/were incarcerated. Participants developed skills and knowledge to better navigate difficult situations (i.e., intense conflict, intense emotions, etc). Success was measured through verbal communication from individuals who have had more experience with individual participants (i.e., parents, teachers, probation officers, program staff, etc). Rasheed helped develop a position that will allow a licensed, or associate licensed, mental health clinician to provide similar services.
Project Results
- The executive director, program director, and supporting staff indicated that the participants that have been met have experienced a positive change in their perspective(s) on their lives, and what they want to do moving forward.
