FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Kimberly Eaton, Program Alum, Will Assume the Role in October.
Birmingham, AL — September 23, 2024 — The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship of Alabama (ASF) announced today that Kimberly (Kim) Eaton has been named the next Executive Director of the Albert Schweitzer Fellowship of Alabama effective October 7th.
Kim is a communications professional who specializes in strategic communications, media relations, nonprofit management, student and employee engagement, and program development, implementation, and evaluation. After starting her career as a newspaper reporter, Kim transitioned to higher education where she worked in media relations, external and internal communications, events, and student/employee engagement. She is also the co-founder and president of Angel’s Hope, a 501(c)3 that provides quality of life programs for families impacted by pediatric cancer. Kim holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in Interactive Technology from the University of Alabama, and she’s currently a third-year PhD student in the Health Behavior program within UAB’s School of Public Health. Her research focuses on the mental health of families who experience child loss. More specifically, she is developing curriculum that centers around self-care and journaling as a way for bereaved mothers to cope with grief, stress, anxiety, and depression.
Kim is an Albert Schweitzer program alum (Fellow for Life, Class of 2022-23), and has firsthand experience of the health equity work Alabama Schweitzer Fellows accomplish during the 15-month Fellowship. Trevor Waldo, President of the Board of Directors, said, “Alabama ASF is honored and fortunate to have an esteemed Fellow for Life step into our Executive Director role to lead the local program. Kim has a deep passion for the impact our program has on students as well as strong leadership, development and planning skills that will serve as a solid foundation in this role.”
Kim assumes the role which has been filled by Kristin Boggs since the organization’s founding in 2015. “It gives me immense pleasure to have an alumna of our program at the helm, to lead ASF Alabama into its next stage of growth,” Boggs said. “Kim will not only bring a unique perspective due to having been a Fellow, but her background in both nonprofits and higher education means she can identify with our two key constituent groups. I can’t wait to see how she’ll combine these varied perspectives to help the organization deliver higher-quality programming to graduate students, more impactful service for our nonprofit community partners and more return on investment for our academic partners as we work together to train Alabama’s next generation of health leaders.”
Kim joins the ASF team as a cohort of 20 students in the 2024-25 class of Alabama Schweitzer Fellows–-representing Alabama State University, Auburn University, Samford University, the University of Montevallo, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB)–enters the mid-point of their 15-month, community-based health projects done in coordination with 14 organizations in Jefferson, Lee, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery and Shelby Counties.
