The Albert Schweitzer Fellowship of Alabama has named University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing alumna Julie Mauldin, BSN, RN (BSN 2023), to its 2024-25 cohort. Mauldin is one of 20 fellows from across the health care field who will spend the next 15 months immersed in community public health projects.

“Selecting this year’s cohort of Schweitzer Fellows was a humbling experience,” said Kristin Boggs, Executive Director of ASF of Alabama. “It was a reminder of the desire and drive of so many individuals who seek to use their skills not only after graduation from their respective degree programs but also during them. They recognize that learning and serving are not separate processes but can be worked towards simultaneously. I’m hopeful to see how these students not only learn from their future patients but also advance health and well-being in the meantime.”

Mauldin plans to work with The Foundry’s Changed Lives Mobile Clinic, which serves men at the Changed Lives Christian Center, a faith-based organization that offers transitional housing to break the cycle of homelessness. As part of her fellowship, Mauldin is working on ways to decrease health disparities in specialized populations—particularly those undergoing recovery.
