Ashley led a range of initiatives to improve access to eye care in underserved communities through the Community of Hope Health Clinic mobile unit. She began by volunteering with the clinic to better understand patient needs, then developed and implemented a standardized vision screening protocol to ensure consistent, sustainable services in community settings. She conducted screenings, created culturally appropriate educational videos and flyers on eye health and the impact of systemic conditions like diabetes and hypertension, and collaborated with optometry mentors to refine materials. Ashley also supported outreach efforts and contributed to strengthening the clinic’s role as a Black Belt training site for optometry students. Through her work, individuals with previously undiagnosed vision issues were identified and connected to follow-up care, helping to reduce barriers to early intervention and increase patient engagement in eye health.
