Fellows for Life

The good work we are doing starts with our Fellows and from that pours into our communities through the people they serve and the nonprofits with which they partner. Since program inception in 2015, 84 Alabama Schweitzer Fellows have provided over 18,000 hours of community service. Partnering with more than 67 community-based nonprofit organizations, Fellows have addressed a variety of unmet health needs by creating and carrying out year-long projects with direct service at their core, positively impacting the status of healthcare for underserved populations in Alabama.

We believe not just in the micro-level impact we have through our Fellows’ leadership development training and community service projects each year, but also in the macro-level impact we’re making developing health leaders for years to come, equipping them to be voices of action for underserved communities and individuals now and in the future health careers.

When the initial year ends for the Schweitzer Fellows, the difference they’re making doesn’t: they carry on their commitment to meeting the health needs of underserved populations as members of the Schweitzer Fellows for Life national alumni network, now 4,000 strong. Alabama’s Schweitzer Fellowship now boasts 84 alumni. These Fellows are Dr. Albert Schweitzer’s living legacy. Help them improve the health of vulnerable communities with your tax-deductible donation to ASF.

Are you an Alabama Schweitzer Fellow for Life who wants to connect with other alumni in meaningful ways? We’re expanding our efforts to engage with our Fellows for Life to provide fun opportunities for networking and collaboration.
