2021 Recruitment Underway

ASF of Alabama is pleased to announce that the application for 2021-22 applicants is now available! We are seeking up to 14 students dedicated to serving the community, learning leadership skills, and ultimately improving the health of individuals and communities between March 2021 – April 2022.

Students in a graduate or professional degree program, who will still be enrolled through April 2022 are eligible to apply. In particular, those from participating partner schools are encouraged to apply:

  • Samford University, College of Health Sciences
  • UAB School of Dentistry
  • UAB School of Health Professions
  • UAB School of Medicine
  • UAB School of Nursing
  • UAB School of Public Health
  • University of Montevallo

Students from other schools can apply, but selections will be very limited based upon community funding.

Applicants should be prepared to outline what community issues interest them, two ideas for possibly addressing one or more of these issues, and why these topics interest them. Once selected, Fellows will move through a process of refining their ideas, finding data to support their efforts, selecting a community organization host site, and finding site and academic mentors to guide them. Fellows will then spend 200 hours to plan, implement, evaluate and seek to sustain their community-based projects.

Not sure where to begin? Check out resources online under “Become a Fellow“. Then, join us for a live event or watch a recording of previous information sessions. “Office hours” will also be offered virtually in November and January to assist applicants. Questions can also be directed to Kristin Boggs at kristin.boggs@schweitzerfellowship.org.
